A message from the Pres

Dear Valued Players, Members & Supporters

I would like to make my first official communication to you by welcoming everyone – players and their families, members and friends – to the Meerlieu Cricket Club for the upcoming 2019/20 season. Whether you are an existing player or a new player to the Club, I hope that the season is enjoyable and successful.

I would also like to acknowledge and extend a special welcome to our valued Club Sponsors– without their generous support; many of the services that our Club provides would simply not be possible.
I must not forget to mention our life Members of the Club who laid the foundation of the club that all of us enjoy today.

Since our AGM in May, the Club’s committee has met regularly with a clear purpose to prepare for our upcoming season.

Our mission is to ensure that there is a more open, transparent and inclusive approach in the way we manage the club, on and off the field. Please approach any of the committee members if you have any suggestions. As we would like your assistance to help frame and improve the culture at the club. We want you to be a players/members or supporter.

On the field – Senior Men’s

As many of you know, we have appointed Francois Mostert, (aka: Frankie) as our senior imported player/coach. I am very excited about what Frankie can bring to our Club – not only in terms of his abilities, expertise and knowledge in all things cricket. But also his desire to impart his knowledge onto our younger players.

We happy that we have been able to retain our 2018/19 players & with further commitments from returning players. We will be competitive in our senior grades of Cricket.
I would also like to congratulate Reagan Kyle, who will again Captain the A grade side.

Junior Cricket

We continue build our Junior program. To ensure the longevity of the club we are looking to our future players and hoping to accelerate the skill levels of our junior players.

Junior Blast Cricket again this will be led by Leah Simpson. Anthony Simpson will coach the under 13’s & Frankie, with the assistance of Matt Kell will coach under 16’s.

This year you will see a big change as it will be Junior/senior joint training sessions. On Tuesday nights, training will be held at the West Bairnsdale Cricket ground. Juniors start at 4pm and seniors to be at training as soon as they are available. This way our senior players can mentor, assist in the coaching and build rapport with the junior players and their families

Thursday night trainings will continue to be at Meerlieu with Meals afterwards. Looking forward to seeing as many faces as possible out at the Tussocks.
