Meerlieu Women claimed the grand final in style, defeating Paynesville by 35 runs in a wet and gritty 18βover contest. π§οΈπππ After a delayed start and rain falling on and off throughout the match, the Meerlieu batters showed poise and maturity beyond their experience. Kelsey East (30 ret) and Adelle OβDoherty (30 ret) set a strong platform before Beckie Stevens (32 off 18, with six 4s)* launched a lateβinnings surge to take the total to an impressive 1/139. π₯ππ
The bowling unit then kept things tight from the outset. Lucy Simpson (4 overs 2/10) produced a matchβdefining spell, while Kelsey East (4 overs 1/15) added another crucial contribution with the ball. The fielders backed them up brilliantly, with a Cassie OβBrien stumping, an awesome Zoe Lawson catch, and runβouts from Leah and Lucy Simpson, ultimately restricting Paynesville to 5/104. πππ
Capping off the night, Kelsey East was awarded Player of the Final πππ for her outstanding allβround performance with both bat and ball.
Itβs a fantastic achievement for the team in their debut season, bringing together 13βyearβolds and seasoned players to create something special.. πππ Their teamwork, determination, and spirit have been clear all year, and this grand final win is a perfect reflection of that.
The club couldnβt be prouder of the girls πππ and looks forward to seeing them continue to grow and remain a huge part of the Tussocks family moving forward. πΎπ
CARN TUSSOCKS!
